Dickmanns and Maurer 2000 : A complex vision system ‘MarVEye’ is being tested duplicating functions of vertebrate vision systems. Several CCD-TV-cameras with various focal lengths, are mounted on a platform for active / reactive gaze control. The system trades improved data economy for active gaze control and allows new performance levels in dynamic machine vision. The corresponding distributed knowledge bases link features in the images to objects in the world and to the mission to be performed, exploiting a combination of methods from systems dynamics and artificial intelligence. The system has been realized on COTS-computer hardware and tested in the two test vehicles VaMoRs and VaMP.
